3 minutes on me:
I’m fast. I’m intuitive. I see things others don’t see. I remember things others don’t remember. I’m up to date with software and with intuition. I use my intuition to find answers quickly and then I create an hypothesis and see if it’s true or false. When I was 25 my father said I’ve got a big problem. The problem is that I see the answer and a path to the answer too quickly. He said that I need to work out the 10 or 20 step process to the answer and then be able to charge accordingly for the months of the implementation. I’ve also found this to be unfair. Rather pay a higher price for a quick (and high quality) result? But how to sell this? If I do something in 5 minutes that might take someone else 5 months, should I rather do it in 5 minutes and pretend it took 5 months? That way I can do lots of these projects concurrently. I’ve had this big bridge to cross and perhaps this is the way to cross it?
Part of what happens now is that I voice a question in a meeting and sometimes I know the answer instantly, as if the person just explained what’s going on to me for hours.
I program computers and I unprogram people. Most people don’t know the assumptions they are making. Asking the right questions often leads the client to the answers, and sometimes they say, “thanks for the guidance, we’ll take it from here”.
Two quick examples. In October 2025 I optimised a Postgres process that was taking 90 minutes to now take 1.5 minutes. In 2021, I was invited to solve a problem that no one could solve. I solved it in 15 minutes.
